PURPOSE: A method of controlling an engine for a vehicle is provided to detect trouble of a waste gate actuator and to perform the compensating function of controlling ignition time to engine RPM(Revolutions Per Minute) and controlling an injection flow of fuel. CONSTITUTION: An engine control unit(200) detects trouble of a waste gate actuator(S100). The engine control unit decides whether the pressure of a booster to decide the pressure of a surge tank is over the predetermined value during traveling(S110). The engine control unit decides whether the decided pressure of the booster is maintained beyond the predetermined value for over the predetermined time(S120). If the opening of a throttle valve of the engine is not an idle state and is over the predetermined value, the engine control unit decides something is wrong with the waste gate actuator(S130). The engine control unit stores a waste gate actuator trouble code to a memory and outputs a trouble-warning signal(S140). The engine control unit outputs the ignition time control signal and outputs a fuel injection control signal(S150,S160).
