PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for cooling a liquid crystal display projection television are provided to smoothly cool the projection television using a small-sized cooling fan. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for cooling a liquid crystal display projection television includes a controller(1), a power supply(2), a power varying unit(5), a cooling fan(4) and a temperature detector(6). The controller controls each of components of the projection television. The power supply provides power to each component of the projection television under the control of the controller. The power varying unit receives power provided by the power supply to control the magnitude of the power according to a control signal of the controller. The cooling fan accepts the power from the power varying unit to cool the heat of a to-be-cooled(3). The cooling fan is turned on/off according to an on/off control signal of the controller, and detects rotation rate to apply the rotation rate to the controller. The temperature detector detects the temperature of the to-be-cooled to apply the temperature to the controller.
