The invention concerns a method for cutting a material with a laser beam (3, 13, 23) using at least a multiple-focus optical means (1), such as a lens or the like, for focusing the laser beam (3, 13, 23) in several separate focusing points (PF1, PF2) in combination with a convergent/divergent nozzle (2) through which passes said laser beam (3, 13, 23) and flows a gas stream assisting the laser beam. The invention also concerns an installation for implementing the method.
