PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface acoustic wave device where a plurality of strips present in its IDT constitute a plurality of groups with the strip disposing periods of the adjacent groups to each other being made different from each other, and the inter-group short-circuits of the strips are hardly generated, and further, its electrodes can be formed, without requiring expensive manufacturing equipment having a high resolution. SOLUTION: The surface acoustic wave apparatus 1 has an IDT 3 formed on a piezoelectric substrate 2, having a plurality of strips; the plurality of strips present in the IDT 3 constitute first to fifth groups, each of which having one or more strips. The strip-disposing periods of the first to fifth groups are different from each other, in the direction where a surface acoustic wave propagates; and the first and second groups 11, 12 are arranged adjacent to each other with the mutually adjacent strips 11b1 , 12a being made to contact and integrated with each other.
