The invention relates to a transmission mechanism meant for equipping the means of transportation which are manpower-operated by pedals, such as a tricycle. According to the invention, the mechanism consists of a crown gear (1) which, by means of a chain (2), drives a group of pinions (3), a hub (4) integral with a flywheel (5). The flywheel (5) takes over the rotation motion and transmits it, through a clutch (6), to a gear box (7) which transmits the motion to a hub (8), which is connected to a differential bevel drive gear (9) and entrains the wheel (10) directly by means of a crown (11) mounted on the wheel rim.
