PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use an optical disk in various modes, and to facilitate the management of data. SOLUTION: Each recording attribute of a first and a second recording regions on a recording surface in different positions in the thickness direction of an optical disk is set on the basis of the selection of a rewritable region, a write-once region or a write-protect region. Information for specifying the attribute of the set recording region is recorded on a structure management table. The recording attribute recorded on the structure management table is rewritten on the basis of a command issued by a host device.
