PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lower insertion force of terminal fittings while maintaining its locking force. SOLUTION: The position of a root 36A on a locking face 36 of a projection 32 of a lance 30 is set to be lower than an insertion guiding face 34 in a cavity 23. When a female side terminal fitting 10 is inserted in the regular position, it is displaced to the position lower than the guide plane 41, which leads the front edge of a lance hole 16 to be locked at the root 36A of the locking face 36. As the part where the locking force is exerted is the area R including the upper surface of an arm section 31 located at the rear of the projection 32 in addition to the root of the projection 32, the locking force is secured even if the depth of the projection 32 becomes smaller. When the depth of the projection 32 is small, the position (power point Y) where the female side terminal fitting 10 first hits to warp and deform the lance 30 falls farther (distance S) from the fulcrum X of the warpage of the arm section 31, enabling the force required to warp and deform the arm section 31, namely, the insertion force of the female side terminal fitting 10 to be controlled small.
