PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording/reproducing method capable of carrying out high-density recording on a magnetic recording medium and obtaining sufficient recording/reproducing characteristics when data is reproduced by an MR head even under the condition of a high data transfer speed, and a magnetic recording medium to be used for the magnetic recording/reproducing method. SOLUTION: In the magnetic recording/reproducing method for reproducing a signal magnetically recorded on a magnetic recording medium by a magneto- resistance head (MR head), the magnetic recording medium has a substantially nonmagnetic lower layer and a magnetic layer containing hexagonal ferrite ferromagnetic powers and a binder formed in this order on at least one surface of a nonmagnetic support, an average plate diameter of the hexagonal ferrite ferromagnetic powders is 15 to 40 nm, an average plate thickness is 4 to 15 nm, and a coercive force He of the magnetic layer is 143.3 to 318.4 kA/m (1800 to 4000 Oe). The magnetically recorded signal has a maximum frequency of 10 to 80 MHz. |
