PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device that is improved in safety by detecting the life-end condition of a cold cathode tube and stopping the operation of the lighting circuit. SOLUTION: The lighting device of this cold cathode discharge tube comprises an inverter circuit 3 that supplies current to the cold cathode tube 1, a temperature detecting sensor 4 that is provided in the vicinity of at least one of the main electrodes out of a pair of main electrodes 1b, 1b constituting the cold cathode tube 1, and a control circuit 5 in which an operation-stop signal generating circuit that generates an operation stop signal when the temperature detecting sensor 4 detects a temperature higher than prescribed and a switching circuit for stopping the lighting current supply operation of the inverter circuit 3 by impressing the above operation-stop signal are built in. |
