PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of an organic EL element of which the negative electrode comprises a layer having an alkaline metal or an alkaline earth metal in which it is possible to obtain the EL element having a lower driving voltage. SOLUTION: This is a manufacturing method of an organic EL element which comprises a luminous layer containing at least one layer of organic luminous body between the electrodes made of a pair of a positive electrode and a negative electrode of which at least one is transparent or semi-transparent and in which the negative electrode contains a layer having an alkaline metal or an alkaline earth metal. In the process, or after the process, of forming the layer having the alkaline metal or the alkaline earth metal, the EL element is heat-treated in the temperature range of 50 deg.C-120 deg.C.
