PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and high-reliability LED display device provided with a protective means for preventing LED elements 5 arranged in a matrix form from being damaged by reverse voltage applied thereto. SOLUTION: In the LED display device comprising the LED elements 5 arranged in a matrix form, switching elements 1 for controlling the columns of the LED elements 5, limiting resistors 4 each of which is connected across the switching element 1 and the anode of the LED element 5 in each column and limits the current flowing through the LED 5, and switching elements 2 for controlling the cathodes of each row of the LED elements 5 arranged in a matrix form, voltage drop elements 8 are connected across the anode of the LED element in each column and a reference potential (ground) lower than a potential supplied to the switching elements 1 for controlling each column. The protective circuit 8 of a simple configuration prevents the LED elements 5 from being damaged by the reverse voltage, so as to realize an inexpensive and high-reliability LED display device.
