PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone set capable of automatically rejecting a response to an incoming call when an automobile engine is to be started. SOLUTION: This portable telephone set is provided with a sensing device (7), a storage device (2) and a controller (1). The sensing device (7) senses an operating state of an automobile engine and creates state information corresponding to the sensed operating state. The storage device (2) stores set state information corresponding to the operating state of the engine in the automobile. The controller (1) collates the state information created by the sensing device (7) with the set state information stored in the storage device (2) and automatically set rejection of a response when an incoming call is received on the basis of collation results of the state information with the set state information.
