PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide individual identification technology, with which processing time is shortened by reducing computational complexity in the case of collating a fingerprint or the like and simultaneously, accuracy in collation can be improved as well. SOLUTION: In a press-contact type fingerprint sampler 1, the range of 1 cm<2> on the central portion of a fingerprint made into press-contact plane is sampled and fingerprint information presenting the two-dimensional image of that fingerprint is supplied to a fingerprint collation processing device 2. In the fingerprint collation processing device 2, eight kinds of feature points (starting point, ending point, branching point, junction point, point, short line, island-shaped line and damage) are extracted from the fingerprint information by a feature point extracting part 2 and written in a storage part 22 and the fingerprint is registered. When collating the fingerprint, the fingerprint is sampled similarly by the press-contact type fingerprint sampler 1, the feature points are extracted and supplied to a collation operating part 21c. Besides, the feature points of the registered fingerprint are read and supplied to the collation operating part 21c by a control arithmetic processing part 21a. Thus, in the collation operating part 21c, the feature points of the sampled fingerprint are compared with the feature points of the registered fingerprint and it is decided whether both the fingerprints are identical or not. |
