PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for automatically upgrading the protocol of a home appliance. SOLUTION: The protocol of the home appliance of a new version is updated and stored in a service providing server to which information on home appliances is provided. The protocol of the new version stored in this service providing server is sent to a gateway to be connected with the home appliance to be downloaded by this gateway. thus, an existent protocol stored in this home appliance is upgraded automatically. Thus, the protocol stored in a flash memory can be upgraded simply and automatically to the protocol of the new version. Consequently, inconvenience that a service man visits directly to customers or a user operates the appliance separately for upgrading the version of the existent home appliance is eliminated.
