PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a beam forming method for an improved two-dimensional smart antenna array suited for use in a cellular base station. SOLUTION: By a weight set of beam forming which is optimized in a specific beam direction and stored, an array generates a directivity downlink beam. Since the array has a physical periodicity, the number of a basic weight set in a specific beam direction is decreased, and a secondary weight set can be attained by rotation.
