PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent image density variation resulting from secondary pre- transfer electrification. SOLUTION: A secondary pre-transfer electrifier 14 is provided opposite a drive roller 11 with an intermediate transfer belt 8 between them, the drive roller 11 having an elastic layer on its surface. The resistance value of the drive roller 11 is equal to or lower than 1e6Ω, and the surface resistivityρs of the intermediate transfer belt 8 is set so as to fall in the range of 1e10Ω/(square)<ρs<1e12Ω/(square). This prevents density variation resulting from the secondary pre-transfer electrification and assures a satisfactory image.
