PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EL element that can demonstrate its original gas barrier performance without corrosion or the gas barrier layer, even when patterning the electrode layer by etching or the like is made on the base material formed with the gas barrier layer when manufacturing the EL element. SOLUTION: The EL element comprises a base material made of resin, a gas barrier layer formed on the resin base material, a ceramics film derived from polysilazane formed on the gas barrier layer, a first electrode layer formed on the ceramics film in a pattern form, an organic EL layer having at least a luminous layer formed on the first electrode layer, and a second electrode layer formed on the above organic EL layer.
