PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve recording quality when recording or rewriting information to/from a phase transition type optical recording medium. SOLUTION: In this recorder 1 for recording or rewriting optical information to/from the phase transition type optical recording medium 2 with a multi-speed system by a recording wave subjected to pulse width modulation (PWM: pulse width modulation), a 1 signal having the signal width nT after the modulation is recorded or rewritten by the recording wave of a recording wave pulse train having a pulse part (fp), a multi-pulse part (mp) and a pulse part (ep), and the relation between the time width x and the time width z satisfies x>=2z when the time width of the pulse part (fp) is expressed as x and the time width of the pulse part (ep) is expressed as z.
