<p>Device name conflicts are resolved when adding devices (128 of Fig. 1A and Fig. 3) to existing ad hoc networks (132 of Fig. 1A) or when joining two ad hoc networks (100/108 and 114/116 of Fig. 3D) together. After a connection (252 of Fig. 3) has been established between a new device (128 of Fig. 3) to be added and a first member device (124 of Fig. 3) in the ad hoc network, a name distribution message (244M of Fig. 1B) is transferred (253 of Fig. 3) by the new device (128 of Fig. 3) to the first member device (124 of Fig. 3). The name distribution message (244M of Fig. 1B) will be passed from member device to member device (124, 126, 116) in the ad hoc network (132 of Fig. 1A), and at each member device a name conflict check is performed (259 of Fig. 3). Device name conflicts are also resolved when joining two ad hoc networks together (312 of Fig. 3D).</p> |
