A small−diameter bar−like small−sized CCD is attached to that position on the side surface of the twist lock box (14) of a spreader (1) which somewhat projects outward beyond a suspended container (20) so that the CCD looks down at a television camera device (30) consisting of a CMOS camera. This television camera device clearly takes pictures of the lower and peripheral regions of the twist lock box (14) of the spreader and the lower and peripheral regions of the suspended container (20). These pictures are transmitted for display to a television monitor in the driver’s cabin of a materials handling machine by the method commonly used, whereby the driver can easily detect the relative positional relation between the suspender or suspended load and the target position. On the other hand, if the television camera device (30) is left projecting beyond the container side surface, as described above, the television camera would contact a structure opposed thereto and be damaged as when materials handling is effected in a space so limited as to allow a single container to somehow pass therethrough. In order to avoid such drawbacks, therefore, the television camera device (30) has a mechanism that swingably supports it by a pin support and a spring, so that under the working conditions described above, the television camera device is pushed by an obstacle to automatically retract into the spreader, thus eluding damage.
