The energy beam guide comprises a first region (214) having a first refractive index, the first region (214) having an energy beam receiving end and an inclined first boundary (226) opposing the energy beam receiving end. The energy beam guide also includes a second region (218) having a second refractive index that is less than the first refractive index. The second region (218) shares the first boundary (226) with the first region (214), and has a declined second boundary (228) opposing the first boundary (226). A predetermined distance separates the first and second boundaries. Finally, the energy beam guide comprises a third region having a third refractive index. The third region (223) shares the second boundary (228) with the second region (218). Also provided are a method for making and using the energy beam guide. |
