<p>An inorganic fiber mat having a binding agent composed of a phenol resin as a main component attached thereto and being formed, which comprises an aldehyde scavenger and reaction products thereof in an amount of 3 to 15 mass parts relative to 100 mass parts of the binding agent, wherein the aldehyde scavenger is at least one compound selected from the group consisting of a sodium salt, a potassium salt and a calcium salt of sulfurous acid, acid sulfurous acid, dithionous acid or disulfurous acid; and a method for producing the inorganic fiber mat. The aldehyde scavenger is provided between a step of introducing the binding agent and a polymerizing and curing step. The inorganic fiber mat can be produced with a reduced amount of an aldehyde released during and after production without detriment to physical properties thereof.</p> |
