Metallic salts with practically monodispersed crystals are precipitated by introducing a soln. contg. anions of the salt and a soln. contg. cations of the salt into a container, the flow rates of the solns. being increased so that the average size of the crystals increases according to the formula at2 + bt + c (where t is the duration of precipitation; and a, b and c are constants determined empirically according to the operating conditions). Enables large crystals of metallic salts with a narrow size distribution to be precipitated rapidly. Esp. useful for precipitating uniformly sized crystals of silver halides for use in photographic emulsions.
|
