The winding stage (10), to wind paper/cardboard webs into rolls on a reeling drum (12), has a primary lever (14) acting on the drum in a primary winding phase. It moves the drum into a take-up position, and then into a transfer position to be passed to the secondary lever (16) for further winding in a secondary phase. The web is passed over a winding cylinder (18), which forms a winding gap (22) between it and the reeling drum and the wound roll (20) on it. The linear pressure at the winding gap is applied by the primary lever acting on the drum holder (24) or the secondary lever acting on the winding cylinder. The linear pressure in the primary phase is applied continuously and automatically under control at a nominal value level. During the transfer phase, the changes are compensated by the weight of the reeling drum and the wound web around it and the weight of the drum holder.
