A multicolor image forming material for recording an image by superposing at least four kinds of thermal transfer sheets of different colors having at least a photothermal conversion layer and an image forming layer both formed over a support on an image forming sheet having an image forming layer in su ch a way that the image forming layer of each photothermal conversion layer is opposed to the image receiving layer of the image receiving sheet, irradiati ng the sheets with a laser beam, and thereby transferring the image in the lase r beam-irradiated area of the image forming layer onto the image receiving lay er of the image receiving sheet. The multicolor image forming material is characterized by comprising a thermal transfer sheet (X) having an image forming layer containing a pigment selected from Pigment Red 48:1, Pigment R ed 48:3, Pigment Green 7, Pigment Blue 15:6, Pigment Blue 60, Pigment Violet 23 , and Pigment Orange 43. A multicolor image forming method using such a materi al is also disclosed. A multicolor image the range of the reproducible hue of which is extended can be provided.
