907,622. Semi-conductor devices. WESTING- HOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. Sept. 16, 1960 [Sept. 17, 1959], No. 31697/69. Class 37. In a semi-conductor device such as a Si or Ge transistor or switching device, in which a semi-conductor element enclosed in a housing has at one face an annular electrode encircling another, inner, electrode, a connection to the inner electrode extends for at least part of its length within a connection to the annular electrode, the two connections being insulated from one another and from the housing. As shown, a semi-conductor element 1 has, at one face, an annular electrode 3 having a connection member 5, an intermediate part 7 of which is flexible; the part 6 which adjoins the electrode 3 has a half to one side of a central longitudinal plane cut away, to facilitate the connection to an inner electrode 4 of a Ni wire 8 which extends through a central bore in the member 5, being insulated therefrom by a sleeve 9 of PTFE. The element 1 is mounted on a base 2, usually of Cu, to which is welded, via a steel ring 13, a steel cap 12 which is insulated from member 5 by a glass to metal seal 14. Around the upper part of member 5 is provided a cylindrical member 15 which is crimped at 16, and around the upper part of Ni wire 8 is provided a Ni-Fe tube 11 which is crimped at 18, and which is insulated from cylinder 15 by a glass to metal seal 17. Specification 893,493 is referred to. |
