FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, continuous casting of non-ferrous metals, possibly manufacture of laminate structure of sliding crystallizer used, for example for crystallization of copper wire. SUBSTANCE: crystallizer is in the form of graphite sleeve coated with protective layer of composition material containing refractory compound in graphite matrix. Crystallizer is provided in addition with double-layer coating whose inner layer adjacent to protective layer contains the same refractory compound as that of composition layer. Outer layer of said coating contains oxide of basic element of refractory compound. Carbide is used as refractory compound; base of refractory compound is element of IV-V groups of periodic system. Protective composition layer has variable content characterized by negative gradient of carbon concentration along layer thickness in direction of coating. Outer layer of coating has variable content along layer thickness and it is characterized by positive gradient of oxygen concentration in direction to surface being in contact with melt. EFFECT: increased useful life period, enhanced reliability of crystallizer operating in oxidizing media, improved surface quality of cast billets. 4 cl, 1 dwg
