An embodiment of a safety closure for a container includes a sleeve (3) which is fixed to the container (2) inside of which a part (6) is rotatable to place the container (2) in a position where dispensing may take place. A recess (8) in the sleeve (3) with a vertical wall (54) cooperates with an outwardly biased hinged tab (50) on the rotatable part (6) abutting the wall (54) and preventing rotation, unless tab (50) is pushed in to clear the wall, (54) while at the same time rotating the first part to said dispensing position.
