The aim of the invention is the rapid and reliable identification of objects provided with passively retroreflecting or actively light-emitting optical markers, by means of a camera and the determination of the position of the marked object, even where the markers are not sharply imaged on the image sensor or are partly covered and with the smallest of algorithmic requirements. The above is achieved, whereby the device emits light in at least two wavelength ranges, whereby the light emitter is synchronously controlled with the pixeled or rastered exposure of an image sensor, such that a passive marker embodied as a retroreflector is characterised in the image as an object with light and dark zones. The brightness pattern generated as above significantly reduces the algorithmic requirement for an automatic recognition of markers. The invention finds application in the recognition and identification of people to warn of entering dangerous zones, the positional recognition of loads on cranes, following preceding vehicles and the recognition of cyclists and pedestrians in road traffic. |
