<p>A remedy and/or preventive for cardiac failure and/or cardiac hypertrophy which contains as the active ingredient a hydroxamic acid compound represented by the formula (I): (I) (wherein R1 represents hydrogen, C1-8 alkyl, or C1-8 alkyl substituted by -OR2, and R2 represents hydrogen, C1-8 alkyl, benzyl, or C1-8 alkyl substituted by C1-8 alkoxy) or a nontoxic salt of the compound. The compound represented by the formula (I) has matrix metaloproteinase inhibitory activity and is effective against cardiac failure and cardiac hypertrophy.</p> |
