The invention relates to a method for forming from particles (5) a mat that is intended to provide one or more sheets or boards of lignocellulose-containin g material. The particles (5) are deposited onto a forming belt (6) from a supply source (5) which is located at a higher level than the forming belt. According to the invention, movement of the particles is retarded (7, 8) during th eprocess of depositing said particles. The invention also relates to an arrangement for carrying out the method.
