PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder which can form image prints having a higher quality than the quality of conventional ones, by appropriately transparentizing and smoothing an ink-receiving layer of a recording medium by a fixing means in an ink jet recorder having the fixing means by a belt fixing system for transparentizing, and smoothing an ink-receiving layer to a recording medium which has the ink-receiving layer including thermoplastic resin particles in a surface layer. SOLUTION: Flanges 52a and 56a are set for preventing a bias of a heating belt 53 and a pressuring belt 57 to driven rollers 52 and 56 to which the heating belt and the pressuring belt are hung respectively. A tensile force applied to the belt members is adjusted by exciting means B, C set to the driven rollers 52, 56 respectively. Moreover, a heating temperature by the heating belt 53 is controlled by detecting/adjusting the surface temperature of a heating roller 51, and a heating time by the heating belt 53 is controlled to be within an appropriate range.
