PURPOSE: An array substrate for a liquid crystal display and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to reduce time for manufacturing the liquid crystal display. CONSTITUTION: An array substrate for a liquid crystal display is composed of a substrate(100); a plurality of gate wires(102,110) and a plurality of data wires(122,134) crossing each other on the substrate for defining a plurality of pixel areas(P), made of dual layers of a transparent electrode and a non-transparent electrode, each including a gate pad(106) and a data pad at one ends; pixel electrodes(124) formed on the pixel areas and having one sides extended to the top of the gate wires; a plurality of thin film transistors(T) each installed on the crossing point of the gate wire with the data wire, a gate electrode(112) in which the part of the gate wire is defined, a source electrode extended from the data wire, a drain electrode(126) separated from the source electrode at a regular gap and extended to the top of the gate electrode, and a semiconductor layer(116b) placed on the gate electrode and contacting with the source electrode and the drain electrode; and a protective layer covering the gate wires, the data wires, and the plurality of thin film transistors.
