<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a new periodical polarization inversion structure capable of stably obtaining a periodical polarization inversion structure in a satisfactory shape by preventing the disturbance, etc., of the shape of polarization inversion areas. SOLUTION: A first electrode 12 having a plurality of electrode pieces 12-1 to 12-7 that are periodically arranged are arranged on the principal plane 1A of a ferroelectric single crystal substrate 1, and second electrodes 3A and 3B are arranged on the principal plane 1A and a rear plane 1B so as to be located opposite the first electrode 12. In the first electrode 12, each electrode piece consists of a front end part F having the minimum electrode width Wf and a root part B having the maximum electrode width Wb and presents a tapered shape in which electrode width become large from the front end side toward the root side. Then, the periodical polarization inversion structure 4 is formed by applying a prescribed voltage between the first electrode 12 and the second electrodes 3A and 3B.</p> |
