A method for analysing a set of data to obtain characteristics defining the data is proposed. Numerical values for the characteristics are obtained by expressing the characteristics in terms of partial derivatives and local differences of the data with respect to the characteristics. The order of the derivatives and differences are chosen to be as low as possible. The characteristics may include spatial parameters that define the position of a data point relative to an event such as an edge or corner in the data, and a blur parameter. Therefore the method can be used for edge detection and blur estimation. The method can also be part of a system to estimate object distances from penumbral blur. A method for obtaining the characteristic of non-linear imaging sensors from signal blurring is also described. |
