PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flexible sealing material mounting structure which allows efficient mounting of a flexible sealing material according to excavation of a shield tunnel, and improves the cutoff performance thereof, and to provide a flexible sealing material mounting method. SOLUTION: The flexible sealing material mounting structure is comprised of a pair of segment rings 13, 13' which are arranged across a predetermined interval therebetween such that end faces 15, 15' are opposed to each other, and a ring formed of the flexible sealing material 11 sandwiched by the end faces. More specifically, rings formed of steel plates 12, 12' for mounting the flexible sealing material are arranged between the end faces 15, 15', and water- swelling films 17 are interposed between the rings formed of the steel plates 12, 12' and the segment rings 13, 13', respectively. Further, the ring formed of the flexible sealing material 11 is arranged directly on the rings formed of the steel plates 12, 12'.
