PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet accumulating mechanism of high reliability. SOLUTION: A paper sheet retainer 17, formed of an elastic member to cover a release port 36 in a condition fixing one end part side to make the other end part side serve as a free end to press the other end part side by a paper sheet released from the release port 36 to be bent in a direction separating from it, is provided. This paper sheet retainer 17, while returning a bent part in the other end part side to the former condition, presses the rear end of the paper sheet released from the release port 36 in a direction of an accumulating position, the rear end of the paper sheet pressed by the paper sheet retainer 17 to face toward the accumulating position is tapped by a tongue piece 28 of a tongue piece roller 24 further to the direction of the accumulating position.
