PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To press-mold a glass raw material so as to improve surface shape precision of an optical element and to prevent occurrence of deterioration of molding die surface and cloudiness of the optical element. SOLUTION: Desired optical element is molded by pressurizing the glass raw material 8 softened by heating with molding dies 7, 11 disposed to face each other. The glass raw material is softened by heating at a temperature corresponding to viscosity between 10<9> dPa.s and 10<10> dPa.s and then is press- molded by heating the molding dies at a temperature corresponding to viscosity of the glass raw material between 10<8> dPa.s and 10<12> dPa.s.
