PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner which is able to suppress a blowout amount of a component of a smell adhered to an indoor heat exchanger and reduce a consumption power, in cooling and dry operation. SOLUTION: The air conditioner comprises an indoor machine where an indoor heat exchanger and an indoor fan are arranged in an air passage to intercouple a suction port and a discharge port; and an outdoor machine having an outdoor heat exchanger, an outdoor fan, and a compressor 14. Further, the conditioner is constituted such that operation of at least the indoor fan 12 and the compressor 14 is controlled according to an operation state, an air cleaning unit 5 having a deodorizing function through the generation of ozone is disposed between the suction port and the indoor heat exchanger. During cooling and dry operation of the air conditioner, when the compressor 14 is stopped, energization to the air cleaning unit 5 is started. Simultaneously, the indoor fan 12 is stopped or intermittently operated and when the compressor 14 restarts operation, energization to the air cleaning unit 5 is stopped and, simultaneously, control is effected such that the indoor fan 12 effects ordinary operation.
