<p>A motor vehicle power transfer unit (100) for distributing torque between a front wheel drive line and a rear wheel drive line. The power transfer unit includes an input portion (112), an output portion (144), a parallel gear set (104), a non-parallel gear set (106) and a front wheel differential (108) all enclosed within a common housing (102) as an integrally packaged assembly. The input portion (112) is adapted to connect to an output portion of the transmission assembly and output portion (144) is adapted to connect to an input portion of the rear wheel drive line. The parallel gear set (104), coupled to the input portion (112) transfers power to the non-parallel gear set (106) and to the output portion (144). The front wheel differential (108) is also coupled to said input portion (112) and includes left and right differential outputs for connecting to the front wheel drive line.</p> |
