PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fatty acid ester, by which the fatty acid ester can be produced from a fat or oil and a monohydric alcohol in a high yield without using sodium hydroxide as a catalyst, and to provide a fuel or the like containing the fatty acid ester. SOLUTION: This method for producing the fatty acid ester is characterized by reacting the fat or oil with the monohydric alcohol in the presence of a catalyst containing one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of manganese oxide and molybdenum oxide in a state where the fat or oil and/or the monohydric alcohol are changed into supercritical states. A Diesel fuel contains a fatty acid ester produced by the above-production method.
