PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an FC type optical connector and an adapter which can securely connect optical fibers to each other without any misoperation. SOLUTION: At the outer circumference of a plug frame 3, a projection part 12 is provided which engages a cut part 11 formed in a cylinder part 8 of the adapter 7 while made open to the side of the FC type optical connector 1, the projection part 12 is formed projecting to before the tip 14 of the plug frame 3, and the cut part 11 is made long enough axially to engage the projection part 12.
