PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent overload and damage of constituent parts of a shelf elevating device and a shelf of an article storage device. SOLUTION: A plurality of shelves are arranged so as to pass a conveyance face of a conveyor in a shelf vertically to transfer a cargo onto the shelf from the conveyor due to the rise of the shelf and unload the cargo onto the conveyor from the shelf due to lowering of the shelf. The conveyor in the shelf is connected with an inbound subconveyor and an outbound subconveyor to carry the cargo in/out of the article storage device. The number of loaded articles per shelf is added to the number of product and the number of inbound articles to transmit an inbound command to a controller of the article storage device from physical distribution CPU. The controller changes shelves every time when a value obtained by adding the number of the inbound articles to a fraction of the number of articles in stock reaches the number of loaded articles to prevent loading of the number of articles exceeding the number of loaded articles on the shelves.
