PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide mold powder with which generation of slag bear is eliminated and surface defects on a cast slab are prevented by eliminating burning between a mold and a cast slab by securing the inflax of the mold powder into a part between the mold and molten steel and further the development of break-out is restrained and the limitation of the number of heats for continuous casting can be eliminated without limiting casting speed. SOLUTION: The mold powder for continuously casting an aluminum- containing steel containing >=0.5% Al contains, by mass, 40-60% SiO2 , 15-35% CaO and further, <=10% Al2 O3 , <=10% MgO, <=10% Na2 O, <=10% Li2 O, <=10% F and <=15% T. C and has properties of 0.25-0.88 CaO/SiO2 , 1100-1250 deg.C softening point and 10.0 poise (at 1300 deg.C) viscosity.
