PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outdoor unit for air conditioner in which the size of a heat sink can be reduced by improving the cooling efficiency of the heat sink and, at the same time, the cooling effects to electric parts mounted on an electric substrate can be improved by optimizing the cooling air flow supplied to the heat sink. SOLUTION: This outdoor unit for air conditioner has a heat sink cover 11 which is provided above the heat sink 10 heat-conductively fitted with heat generating electric parts 9a to cover the top face of the heat sink 10 apart from the upper end 10t of the heat sink 10 so that cooling air may flow from the top side to the bottom side of the heat sink 10 and a flowing-in opening 12 may be formed for the cooling air and on which a ventilating bulged section 13 which changes the flowing direction of the cooling air flow is provided on the opposite side of the opening 12. The outdoor unit also has a waterproofing plate which is provided between the cover 11 and the upper end 10t of the heat sink 10 apart from the upper end 10t so that a ventilating path 16a may be formed between the cover 11 and upper end 10t and a ventilating gap 16b may be formed to face the bulged section 13 and prevents the infiltration of rain water etc., into the heat sink 10.
