PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a zoom lens consisting of three groups whose entire length is shortened and which is excellent in portability and suitable for an electronic still camera, and optical equipment having the zoom lens. SOLUTION: This zoom lens is provided with a 1st lens group L1 having negative refractive power, a 2nd lens group L2 having positive refractive power, and a 3rd lens group L3 having positive refractive power in order from an object side, and power is varied by changing space between the respective lens groups. The zoom lens is constituted so that the 1st lens group L1 has one negative lens and one positive lens, the 2nd lens group L2 has a doublet constituted by bonding a positive lens and a negative lens and having positive refractive power as a whole, a negative lens and a positive lens in order from the object side, and the 3rd lens group L3 has one positive lens.
