PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a silicone composition for a release paper giving a cured film suitable for medium or heavy releasing, and to prepare a release paper. SOLUTION: The silicone composition for the release paper contains (A) an alkenyl-containing polyorganosiloxane, (B) a polyorganohydrogensiloxane, (C) an organic solvent-soluble organopolysiloxane, (D) an addition reaction catalyst and (E) an addition reaction-controlling agent, as essential components. The organic solvent-soluble organopolysiloxane (C) is as follows: it comprises R3 SiO1/2 (R is a monovalent hydrocarbon group) (M), RSiO3/2 (T) and SiO4/2 (Q); a vinyl group is contained in a part of R; and the following (i) to (v) are satisfied. (i) The average content of the unit T is 15-35 mol%. (ii) The molar ratio M/(T+Q) is 0.6-1.0. (iii) The content of the vinyl group is 0.05-0.2 mol based on 100 g of the organopolysiloxane. (iv) The content of hydroxy is <=0.5 wt.%. (v) The viscosity of a 50 wt.% xylene solution is 5-30 mPa.s. The silicone composition for the release paper can control a releasing power up to a heavier releasing region.
