PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packaging apparatus with which an amount of a film used can be suppressed and to provide a method therefor. SOLUTION: The packaging apparatus is designed to perform steps of suspending portions including welded portions of two elongate films 13 having opposite leading ends welded, putting an object to be packaged on the film portions, bringing both opposite film 13 portions upper than the object close to each other by a contact/release means, reversely rotating a feed means to pull back both film 13 portions thereby having the object rolled by the film 13, thereafter welding the portions of the films 13 which have come close to each other by a heater 52, and cutting between two welded portions 70 by a cutting edge 87 to separate packages.
