PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the visibility of a reflective liquid crystal display device having a front lighting device by reducing mixed colors. SOLUTION: The reflective liquid crystal display device is provided with a liquid crystal display panel and a front lighting device 1 arranged ahead of the liquid crystal display panel to emit light to the liquid crystal display device. The front lighting device has a light source, and a light transmission plate which transmits light emitted from the light source to a light-emitting plane and emits it from the light-emitting plane. The liquid crystal display panel has a polarizer 3, a liquid crystal layer 6 and a reflecting layer 7. The above reflecting layer reflects each of first incident light from the light source and second incident light from the front of the light transmission plate in a predetermined direction, transmits reflected light to create a picture. The refractive indices of the polarizer 3 and layers from the polarizer 3 to the reflecting layer 7 are set so that the reflected light is not totally reflected before transmitted through the polarizer 3. |
