PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device for obtaining a projected image with satisfactory contrast and a method for adjusting the projection type display device. SOLUTION: A polarization separation film 103p is arranged so as to make a first plane and a second plane relatively tilt by several degrees on the basis of a state in which an angle made between the first and second planes is zero degree when a plane extending almost perpendicularly from almost the center of any reflection type light valve 107B among a plurality of reflection type light valve 107B, 107R and 107G and including an optical axis AXB1 from the reflection type light valve 107B up to a place via a color synthesis optical system 104 is defined as the first plane and a plane extending almost perpendicularly from almost the center of any reflection type light valve 107B among the plurality of light valves 107B, 107R and 107G and including an optical axis 2 that goes through in a polarization beam splitter 103 and a normal line N of the polarization separation film 103p of the polarization beam splitter 103 is defined as the second plane respectively. |
